      This office is a fast-paced criminal litigation practice which allows new attorneys an opportunity to gain immediate courtroom experience with bench and jury trials.       Attorney​s ma​ke daily court appearanc​es, part​icipate in arraignments, pretrial-disposition conferences, and conduct bench and jury trials. With a focus to balance social justice with public safety, prosecutors are on the front lines and must exhibit sound judgment to review or initiate charges. Your ability to work well within a team is essential to negotiate plea bargains designed to improve the lives of the parties involved as well as our community. The work requires regular professional interaction and ability to clearly communicate with victims, defendants, witnesses, office staff, co-workers, attorneys, judges, and court personnel.

      Attorneys have opportunities for growth and development in the City Attorney’s office and make a meaningful impact to the community from rotating work in the four bureaus, promotional and leadership opportunities, or moving to the civil division.​

      Successful attorneys receive an annual cost of living allowance and a 5% annual salary increase until reaching the top of the pay range. Professional and promotional opportunities are abundant as experience grows.​​​

      The City's Deferred Compensation Plans (DCPs) have a combined balance of $2.2 billion and are governed by an engaged Board of Trustees with representation from the community, City management, and union representatives. The City contributes to a defined contribution plan 401(a), a deferred compensation plan 457(b), MERP/PEHP plans, and the generous City of Phoenix Employee Retirement System (COPERS) pension helps build your retirement with lower payroll deductions than the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).​​
