November 5, 2024 Special Vacancy Election - Information About Candidates
The City of Phoenix will hold a Special Vacancy Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 to fill the remainder of the current District 7 term which will begin the day after the Canvass of the Votes for the Nov. 5, 2024 Regular Election OR March 11, 2025 Runoff Election (if any) and ends on April 21, 2025.
Candidates who want their names to appear on the ballot must file nomination papers and petitions containing a sufficient number of valid signatures of registered Phoenix voters with the City Clerk between June 8, 2024 and 5 p.m. on July 8, 2024. Petition signatures are verified by the City Clerk, and if the nomination petitions contain the required number of valid signatures and all candidate nomination requirements are met, the candidate's name will be certified to be on the ballot by the City Clerk.

Table Information:
- Candidate Packet Meeting - The Candidate Information Packet is provided to assist candidates in meeting legal requirements of candidacy. Candidates are encouraged to meet with City Clerk Elections staff to go over the packet and candidate requirements in detail, noting that City staff cannot provide legal advice and it is the candidate's responsibility to ensure all legal requirements have been met. Candidates are not required to meet with Election staff but are highly encouraged to do so. If a date is listed in this column, a candidate packet meeting was held on the date listed.
- Statement of Interest Filed – This form is required to be filed with the City Clerk before a candidate can begin collecting any nomination petition signatures.
- Notice of Candidacy Filed – This notice is optional for a candidate to file. It contains candidate contact information which can be viewed by clicking on the candidate's name in the table.
- Candidate Committee Registration – A candidate must register as a Candidate Committee by submitting a Statement of Organization if or when the candidate receives contributions or makes expenditures, in any combination of at least $500 in connection with that candidacy. Registration is required within 10 days of meeting the $500 threshold. Statements of Organization and Campaign Finance Reports can be viewed online in the Campaign Finance eFiling System.
- Nomination Papers & Petitions Filed – The date listed in this column is the date a candidate completed their official filing of candidacy with the City Clerk which includes filing of Nomination Papers and Petition sheets.
- Certified to the Ballot - No later than 10 days after the deadline to file (by July 18, 2024), the City Clerk shall create the list of candidates who filed nomination papers and petitions that were sufficient and met the requirements to have their names placed on the ballot.
