Lead is a dangerous substance that can cause serious health problems, especially to young children. The City of Phoenix’s Neighborhood Services Department is taking action to protect its residents through Lead Safe PHX.
Lead is a naturally occurring element that has been used in various products for decades. However, when lead paint gets old or damaged, it creates lead dust and chips which can be harmful if ingested or inhaled. This is especially concerning for children under 6 years old as they are more susceptible to the effects of lead exposure.
Exposure to lead paint can cause delayed growth, behavioral problems, poor hearing, headaches, and even brain damage. It is crucial for parents and homeowners to take action and ensure their homes are free from lead hazards.
Lead Safe PHX aims to prevent lead poisoning by identifying and addressing potential sources of lead in homes. Through this program, residents can sign up to have their homes tested for lead hazards. If lead is found, the program provides resources and assistance to help remove the hazard and make the home safe again.
