City of Phoenix Partners with Phoenix ToolBank to Expand Tool Lending Program

The City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) is forming a partnership with local nonprofit Phoenix ToolBank to expand its tool lending program, supporting neighborhood revitalization, community events and volunteer-led neighborhood improvement efforts.
Through this partnership, Phoenix neighborhood groups will gain expanded access to borrowing tools and equipment at NSD’s graffiti warehouse, located near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road, and at Phoenix ToolBank’s location on 36th Street and Broadway Road. In addition to 16 types of tools available at no cost, more than 500 additional types of tools will be available to neighborhood groups year-round at very reasonable rates. It’s a much-needed service, now accessible at two locations.
“We’re always looking for ways to empower residents and neighborhood groups,” said NSD Director Spencer Self. “Partnering with Phoenix ToolBank strengthens our tool lending program and allows more communities to take on beautification and cleanup projects that make our neighborhoods better.”
Phoenix ToolBank, an affiliate of the national ToolBank USA network, provides year-round tool and equipment access to nonprofits, schools and community-based organizations. Since opening its doors, the Phoenix ToolBank has saved local groups more than $7.5 million in tool-lending costs and supported over 130,000 volunteers.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the City of Phoenix to ensure all neighborhood groups are aware of our resource and have access to tools and equipment to enhance their events and projects,” said Jana Ferraro, Executive Director of Phoenix ToolBank. “This partnership helps remove barriers for residents who want to roll up their sleeves and make a difference in their local communities.”
In 2023 alone, the organization welcomed 147 new members, including several neighborhood associations already connected to the City’s revitalization efforts. This new partnership is another step in expanding resources and promoting community-driven change across Phoenix.
