The City of Phoenix Office of Environmental Programs (OEP) provides independent technical expertise and environmental leadership to City management, serves as a technical and/or management resource for operating departments, and leads in the creation and implementation of city-wide environmental policies and programs to reduce environmental risk and liability in City operations.
OEP manages a number of programs, including: Air Quality, Brownfields Land Recycling, Climate, Food Systems, Hazardous Materials, Waste and Remediation, Sustainable Purchasing, Surface Water, and Wildlife programs. OEP staffs the Environmental Quality and Sustainability Commission. OEP completed a Community Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, implemented the STAR Communities Rating System, and assisted the Office of Sustainability in achieving the LEED for Cities Platinum certification.
