    Overview

    As an Electrician Apprentice, you will learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment.  You will become knowledgeable in various aspects of energy conservation, medium voltage systems, airfield lighting, and water/wastewater treatment operations, in both commercial and industrial applications.

    Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training, 8,000 on-the-job training (OJT) hours, and a minimum of 900 related training instruction hours. During this period of the program, apprentices will be non-classified and paid as an Electrician apprentice. After successful completion of all requirements, apprentices will be promoted to the Electrician classification and complete a 12-month probationary period.

    Departments: Aviation, Public Works, Street Transportation, and Water Services.

    Salary

    • $24.93 / hour starting wage 
    • $26.18 / hour after 1,000 OJT hours
    • $27.49 / hour after 2,000 OJT hours 
    • $28.86 / hour after 3,000 OJT hours 
    • $30.31 / hour after 4,000 OJT hours  
    • $31.82 / hour after 5,000 OJT hours 
    • $33.41 / hour after 6,000 OJT hours  
    • $35.08 / hour after 7,000 OJT hours
    • $36.84 / hour after 8,000 OJT hours  
    • Starting Pay Upon Graduation $76,627

    On-The-Job Training Includes

    • Attending day or evening classes one night every other week 
    • Rotating between the Aviation, Public Works, and Water Departments
    • Completing All Required Electrician Apprenticeship Training Assignments 
    • Graduating from the Electrician Apprenticeship Program 
    • Earning a State of Arizona Completion Certificate
    • Earning a Department of Labor Completion Certificate
    • Promoting to Electrician

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must have a High School Diploma or GED at the time of hire.  
    • Must pass an Apprentice Aptitude Test with an 80% or better score.  
    • Ability to:
      • Read and comprehend written material at a level appropriate for the position.  
      • Perceive the full range of the color spectrum.  
      • Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
      • Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
      • Work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.  
      • Work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
      • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.  

    Aviation Employment Disqualifiers are not all-inclusive but contain TSA general factors for disqualification of employment for working at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Other factors may also be assessed that may lead to disqualification. Qualified candidates should consider these factors when applying.
