    Fleet Technician and Equipment Service Worker (ESW) II Apprentice

    Overview

    As a Fleet Technician/Equipment Service Worker (ESW) II Apprentice, you will learn the basic terminology of classroom Automotive Technology in a college environment and on the job training on a vast variety of Equipment, specifically sanitation refuse truck. This will include general preventative maintenance (PM’s), small to large repairs and troubleshooting to include hydraulic, electrical, brakes and mechanical repairs, while assisting Skilled workers in job assignments within the ESWII job description.  

    Apprentices must successfully and satisfactorily complete all assigned classroom and equipment training, 4,000 on-the-job training (OJT) hours, and a minimum of 288 related training instruction hours. During this period of the program, apprentices will be non-classified and paid as an ESW II apprentice. After successful completion of all requirements, apprentices will be promoted into the ESW II classification and complete a 12-month probationary period.

    Salary

    • $19.54 / hour starting wage 
    • $20.51 / hour after 1,000 OJT hours 
    • $21.54 / hour after 2,000 OJT hours 
    • $22.61 / hour after 3,000 OJT hours  
    • $23.74 / hour after 4,000 OJT hours  
    • Starting Pay Upon Graduation $49,379

    On-the-Job Training Includes

    • Completing All Required Community College Classes 
    • Graduating from the ESW II Apprenticeship Program 
    • Earning a State of Arizona Completion Certificate 
    • Earning a Department of Labor Completion Certificate 
    • Promoting to Equipment Service Worker II 

    Meet Our Apprentices

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Must have a High School Diploma or GED at the time of hire.  
    • Must successfully attend a fleet services information session.
    • Must have a valid Class D or equivalent license for one year and prove one year of driving experience in a vehicle other than a motorcycle.
    • Ability to: 
      • Read and comprehend written material at a level appropriate for the class.  
      • Perceive the full range of the color spectrum.  
      • Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet). 
      • Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
      • Work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. 
      • Work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust for extended periods of time.  
      • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
