Arizona's desert capital grew at the fastest rate amoung America's largest cities, vaulting ahead of Philadelphia to officially becoming the fifth-largest city in the United States. Phoenix's population grew from 1.4 million people in 2010 to 1.6 million in 2020 a rate of 11.2 percent, according to the Census Bureau.
