The department's ongoing pavement maintenance program provides opportunities to change the current traffic lane striping to improve safety for people who drive a motor vehicle, ride a bike, walk and use public transit.
With bike lane projects, where space on the roadway allows, bike lanes, buffered bike lanes or protected bike lanes are added. The proposed bike lanes also provide connectivity between other nearby bike lanes. These type of projects do not require a public meeting, as the number of motor vehicle travel lanes remains the same and on-street parking is not removed or added.
